Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 11, 2026  Β·  Last updated: March 11, 2026

1. Overview

BallotBox360 is built on a simple principle: you have a right to know what your government is doing without giving up your privacy to find out. We collect only what is strictly necessary to deliver a personalized civic experience, and we never sell your data.

This Privacy Policy describes how BallotBox360 ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Home state preference β€” the U.S. state you select during onboarding, used to surface your relevant representatives, bills, and elections.
  • Email address β€” only if you choose to create an account. Used for account identification and subscription management.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Subscription and purchase status β€” whether you have an active BallotBox360Β° subscription, managed through RevenueCat and Apple/Google payment systems. We do not see or store your payment card details.
  • App usage data β€” standard crash reports and performance diagnostics (e.g., which screens were active when an error occurred) to help us fix bugs. This data is anonymized.
  • Device type and OS version β€” to ensure compatibility and optimize the experience for your device.

Information We Do Not Store Server-Side

Your account preferences (home state, saved items, settings) are stored locally on your device using secure local storage. This means your personal preferences are yours β€” they stay on your device and are not synced to our servers.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We are committed to keeping BallotBox360 nonpartisan and privacy-respecting. We explicitly do not collect:

  • Political party affiliation or voter registration data
  • Your opinions, political views, or voting history
  • Precise GPS location
  • Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
  • Social media profiles or linked accounts
  • Browsing history outside the app
  • Race, ethnicity, religion, or any sensitive demographic information

4. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Service:

  • Personalization β€” your home state determines which representatives, bills, election deadlines, and local officials are surfaced on your profile.
  • Subscription management β€” verifying active BallotBox360Β° entitlements so you can access premium features.
  • App stability β€” anonymized crash data helps us identify and fix bugs.
  • Communications β€” if you contact us by email, we use your email address to respond. We do not send unsolicited marketing emails.

We do not use your information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose not listed above.

5. Third-Party Services

BallotBox360 integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data:

RevenueCat

Manages subscription purchases and entitlement verification. RevenueCat receives your device ID and purchase receipt data from Apple to confirm your subscription status. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Apple App Store

Processes all in-app purchases. Apple's payment systems handle billing; BallotBox360 never sees your payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

OpenAI

Powers AI-generated plain-English summaries of Congressional bills (BallotBox360Β° subscribers only). When you request a bill summary, the bill text is sent to OpenAI's API. No personally identifying information is included in these requests. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

Congress.gov API

Official U.S. government API providing Congressional member data, bill text, and voting records. No user data is sent to Congress.gov.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) API

Official U.S. government API providing public campaign finance data. No user data is sent to the FEC.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Because most of your preferences are stored locally on your device, deleting the app removes that data automatically.

If you have an account (email address on file), you may request deletion by emailing ballotbox360@gmail.com. We will delete your account and any associated server-side data within 30 days.

Anonymized crash and diagnostic data may be retained for up to 90 days for stability analysis, after which it is permanently deleted.

7. Children's Privacy

BallotBox360 is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at ballotbox360@gmail.com and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access β€” request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction β€” request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion β€” request deletion of your personal data.
  • Portability β€” request your data in a portable format.
  • Opt-out β€” since we do not sell data or send marketing emails, there is nothing to opt out of beyond unsubscribing from the app itself.

To exercise any of these rights, email ballotbox360@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and secure storage practices for any server-side data. However, no system is completely secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly by emailing ballotbox360@gmail.com.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app or via email if you have an account. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
